Andrews United Methodist Church. Mrs. Campbell spearheaded the citywide Christmas Ministry for children in Bosnia and the Easter Basket Program for needy children in Orangeburg. She was an executive secretary at Ethyl Corporation for 24 years. Mrs.

Campbell served as administrative assistant to senators Harry Chapman, Ed Garrison, Douglas Hinds and Davis Thomas, before retiring after 18 years in the S.C. Senate. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gerald J. (Babs) Kendziorski of Lake Tahoe, a son, John A.

Harnetiaux died Saturday, June 13, 1998. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late August and Alice Harnetiaux. He retired from The Ducane Heating and Air Conditioning Co. of Columbia, Jan. 1, 1995, after 43 years in marketing.

As the vice president of marketing, he earned the respect and confidence of the corporate leaders in the manufacturing sector of the leading companies of the heating and air conditioning industry. He was often published in trade magazines. After his retirement, he served as corporate marketing consultant for The Ducane Co. Mr. Harnetiaux was a decorated war veteran, earning a battlefield commission in World War II, rising to the rank of major in the Army Corps of Engineers.

He was recalled in the Korean War and awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in a combat situation. A graduate of the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, he later earned a master's degree in marketing. He played college baseball and semi-pro baseball until joining the Army. A former member of Coldstream Country Club, he was a current member of Wildewood and Woodcreek country clubs. He was a supporter of the Humane Society.

He was an avid golfer who often posted golf scores equal to or lower than his age. He died Saturday while playing golf. She retired from the S.C. Department of Education, where she worked in the finance office. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was the treasurer of the sunday schools for 43 years. She was active in the United Methodist Women. A United Methodist Women's Circle was named for her in recognition of her devotion and longstanding contribution to that organization.

She was a member of the Shandon Book Club and the Lander Alumni Association, where she served as president. Surviving are nieces, Mary Cameron Richardson, Mary R. Major, Sarah G. Major, Frances S. Major and Vandy M.McFaddin; two great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

Mr. Schmidt died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his home. Born May 24, 1931, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Howard George and Ella Ruth Jane Skidmore Schmidt. He served in the U.S. National Guard and was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Collins Schmidt of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy S. and Charles M. Salsman of Brevard, N.C., Karen S. and David L. Brown of Columbia; four grandchildren, Robert Brown, Julia Brown, Katherine Salsman and Isabel Salsman.

Robert B. Whaley will officiate. Mr. Simkins Friday, June 12, 1998, of congestive heart failure. Born in Knoxville, March 15, 1921, he was a son of the late Lilly Mae Stapleton Simkins and Robert Moorman Simkins and a lifelong resident of Greenville.

A Furman University graduate, he was president and owner of James H. Simkins Company, a commercial real estate and property management company and formerly headed the property management department of Caine Company. He served in the Army Air Force from 1943-1946, and received the ATO Good Conduct and Victory Medals. Elected to the Greenville City Council in 1961, he served as vice-mayor protem, mayor pro-tem and mayor. While on the council he played a key role in the revitalization of downtown Greenville, was instrumental in drafting the citymanager form of government, and the first to propose a full time municipal judge for the city.

He served as chairman of the finance, building, personnel and public works committees. "He was the conscience of the council," longtime friend and former mayor Max Heller, said Saturday. "Jimmy was a really solid, thoughtful, caring person who served because he truly wanted to serve. He was not only one of the best public servants I have ever seen he was also one of the best people knew," said Heller, who first met Simkins lever the 1960's when the two were in the Jaycees. After leaving politics, Mr.

Simkins remained involved in downtown Greenville revitalization efforts. In 1954, he receive the "Young Man of the Year" Award for Greenville County. He was past president of the Greenville and S.C. Jaycees, the Greenville County Mental Health Association, the Buttonhole Club, Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and past chairman of the Donaldson Center Development Board. He was former chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Greenville Housing Authority, and in 1992, the Woodland Homes Library was named in his honor.

He also served as vice chairman of the governor's legislative committee on Mental Health and Mental Retardation, a position he was appointed to by four South Carolina governors. Mr. Simkins was a member of the Greenville Board of Realtors, the S.C. Association of Realtors, and the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). He was the second person in South Carolina to earn the Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation.

He was a devoted member of Northgate Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Neal Simkins of Greenville; sons and daughter-in-law, James Harrington Jr. and Mary Simkins of Winston-Salem, N.C., Neal Franklin and Leslie Simkins of Greenville; grandchildren, Emily Neal and Tate Harrington Simkins, both of Greenville; brothers, Robert Moorman Simkins Jr. and John Eldred Simkins both of Greenville.
