Hey guys, i had a 15 ex some years back before colorado hail totaled it. I'm looking to get back in a 9th gen Si. I found one near me however it has 105k on the odometer. Its a 2013 Si sedan. Its clean and so is the carfax, but i was curious whether I should look for something with lower miles or go for it. So my question is, what kind of maintenance issues or items should i think about if i decide to go through with this? The carfax doesn't say anything about the transmission being serviced, water pump being replaced etc. I know i can fix that stuff, but with this being my daily, i cant afford for it to be down with a big issue.

Does anyone have a high mileage Si and if so, what maintenance stuff have you had to address and when? Or should i just keep looking? Thanks in advance.

  • 105,000 Miles: Replace timing belt, inspect water pump, replace coolant, check idle speed, plus all items in A and B.
  • 112,500 Miles: All items in A.
  • 120,000 Miles: All items in A, B, and C.

Honda service procedures break down into A, B, and C items. Here’s a quick overview:

A:

  • Replace Engine Oil
  • Rotate Tires

B:

  • Replace Engine Oil Filter
  • Inspect Front and Rear Brakes
  • Check Parking Brake Adjustment
  • Inspect Tie Rods, Steering Gearbox, and Boots
  • Inspect Suspension Components
  • Inspect Driveshaft Boots
  • Inspect Brake Hoses and Lines
  • Check all Fluid Levels, Conditions of Fluids, and Check for Leaks
  • Inspect Cooling System Hoses and Connections
  • Inspect Exhaust System
  • Inspect Fuel Lines and Connections

C:

  • Replace Air Cleaner Element
  • Replace Spark Plugs
  • Inspect and Adjust Drive Belts

I know some of the others have had 100k or 200k+ hondas. I've had a few over 100k with no issue.

lower mileage car. I would not buy it unless it had repairs done with records. And don't buy a car from a cheapskate.Maintenance questions for high mileage Si owners. (4)

This is why i love you webby, the in depth info. I just bring it up because it's here in town, it's the color i want, a few extras (looks lowered and has password jdm spoiler lip) and appears well taken care of. I can hear my wife now... and im off next Monday for Columbus Day... lol.

please stop with the nonsense. There are countless hondas above 300k still driving daily. There are people who were on the 8th gen forum who went a million + miles on their r18 civic. There are users in the reddit honda section with over 1 million miles on their 8th gen civic as well.

I have a friend who has a 6th gen DX with 185k on it and he does not take care of it at all. The thing refuses to die on him despite his neglect.

No timing belts on Honda K-series motors; they use timing chains. So scratch that off your list.
Every 3 years (regardless of mileage) - change brake fluid and clutch fluid. Most people forget about this.
Maintenance Minder will tell you when to flush transmission fluid - I think I did mine around 105,000 miles.
Incidentally, I have over 156,000 miles on my 2014 Civic Si.

Making me feel ok about the mileage. Not that i was worried about it, but maintenance wise. So long as i won't be rebuilding a transmission or replacing a water pump anytime soon.

Well perhaps I am wrong. How waterproof are these 2013 si Honda's. My mechanic says as long as the seals are good very hard rain won't hurt anything? On my srt-4 neon I got a bad water leak and water got into the trunk and it now stinks. I am drying it out now. So I can get a million miles out of my HondaMaintenance questions for high mileage Si owners. (15)

I am nowhere near the Ring, otherwise the C8 would be a tempting test drive. Outside the Ring, a CTR checks a lot of boxes

Honda's my whole life. Never had one (purchased new) last for less than 187,000. That was an '80 Civic. The rest of the car was trashed but not the engine. My '91 Accord was at 265,000 when it was totaled by an uninsured motorist. Still didn't burn oil.

But both were both new; different story for used.

For used, never had one that lasted much more than 100,000 without tranny or clutch problems. If there's a weak link that's it. But clutch repair is a no-brainer compared to an auto, so an Si is definitely the lower risk purchase.

Almost bought an Accord hatch back in '86 with 46,000 miles. It looked clean but I happen to quiz the owner on maintenance records or whether he was a DIYer. "Oh, I never bothered with any of that" he said. So 46,000 miles and no oil change? "No, afraid not".

That's the only problem with buying second hand. While even abused Honda's often go 100,000+, somehow it's doubtful they'd go 200,000+ without proper care.
